Updated: Feb 14, 2023

Leadership is the art of inspiring and empowering others to achieve a common goal. It takes a unique individual to become an effective leader, and Gerry Gambala is a perfect example this.

“Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made, if you want a different result, make a different choice”. In our world, we often encounter individuals who seem to have an air of mystery around them. These people may keep to themselves, or simply exude an enigmatic presence that is difficult to put into words. When I entered at the PCAI hall everything seems ordinary, I saw the speaker fixing and preparing his things and I expected a typical professor-student lecture. However when he started talking and presented himself as professional disturber everyone looked at him with bewilderment and I also asked myself , Who is this Guy? His emanation roused my curiosity and I have a feeling that he is an exceptional person with a strength of character. The time the picture of former senator Trillanes was flashed in the screen, everyone was put into silence, I saw my classmates suddenly became interested and they were conveyed by the speaker. He is indeed a professional disturber. He is Gerry Gambala, class valedictorian of PMA class 1995 with hard earned medals that resembles his humbleness and sharpness in service. Disillusioned in the service he is among those soldiers who fought and attempt to take over the Arroyo administration during the failed coup also known as the oakwood mutiny, Now he is a member of which stands to ingeminate the word of God, the values and moral principles a person must live

Gerry Gambala's leadership style is characterized by his ability to inspire and empower those around him. He is known for his dedication to the principles of community policing, which involves building relationships with the community and involving them in the policing process. This approach has earned him the trust and respect of the communities he serves.

He is also known for his ability to motivate and inspire his team. He leads by example, setting high standards for himself and those around him and a firm believer in the importance of ongoing training and professional development, and encourages his team members to continuously improve their skills.

To enforce the law is not an easy task, it requires deep understanding on the constitution while applying the ethics of the job. Enforcing the law to eradicate the use of illegal drugs fight against organized crime became one the trends in the field of law enforcement at the same time one of the most challenging since high profile personalities are involved. However, I became equipped of values with the help of our speaker. The magic words, moral compass, enlightened me on how to deal with the challenges ahead of me.

The dictionary defines moral compass as the person’s ability to judge right from wrong and act accordingly. Some also define it as a guiding principles that affects person’s decisions making and values. In essence, a moral compass is just as its name suggests. It points us in the right direction. Even if all of us have different definitions of right and wrong, our moral compass provides an objective standard. It doesn’t just help us see what is right and wrong. It also helps us see what must be done for the greater good even if it may not be beneficial for us. Without our moral compass to guide us, it’s so easy to just do whatever is convenient for us nevermind if it’s right or wrong. It becomes so easy to stretch the truth whenever it benefits us or do things without thinking of the consequences both for us and for others. We become selfish, greedy monsters who only care about our own needs and wants.

The society can suffer greatly when our law enforcement officials lack or are unable to use their moral compass, civil unrest to civil rights violations, from terrified and indignant residents to disheartened police. The moral compass is an absolute need for leadership in law enforcement. We must enforce it and demand it.
